This weeks spelling words are high frequency and long 'a' words. We have talked about many vowel blends (like last weeks 'ea') and this weeks vowel blend is 'ai'. Students have learned that most of the time when you see a vowel blend, the first vowel says its name (makes the long vowel sound).
1. don't
2. from
3. hear
4. live
5. when
6. rain
7. wait
8. pail
9. snail
10. nail
We have just started a new unit in our math investigations program called Number Games and Story Problems. This unit deals with number combinations, counting objects that come in 2's like feet, and in 4's, 5's, and 10's. The students will be practicing reading, writing and sequencing numbers up to 100 as well as playing number games and solving many story problems. Story problems are a great thing to practice with your child, even if you are just driving in the car together. You can verbally ask them a problem like "I was carrying 12 apples in my bag. Five of them fell out, how many apples are left in my bag?" (12-5=7) Or "There were four students on the playground. Two boys joined them to play, then three more girls joined them as well. How many students were playing on the playground now?" (4+2+3=9)
Don't forget that we have a field trip this coming Wednesday the 11th. We are going to the JCA to see some plays entitled: The Stories of Dr. Seuss. Don't forget to send your child to school with a bagged lunch. We are looking forward to a fun filled day!
Have a great week!
