For the math homework this week, we are finding different combinations of oranges, cherries, and grapes. There can only be a total of 9. An example of one combination would be: 3 oranges, 3 cherries and 3 grapes (3+3+3=9). Encourage your child to draw pictures or use hands on manipulative's from home to help them figure it out.

Making Words
You have probably noticed these paper letters going home this week! We will be playing the game "making words" a couple times a week this school year. We encourage you to take a couple minutes to sit down with your child and have them show you what words they made that day at school. If you put all of the letters together it makes one "secret word"...see if you can figure it out...we know your child would love to try and trick you! :)

When you are doing the math investigations portion of the weekly homework, encourage your child to draw pictures or use a "hands on" manipulative to help figure out the answers. For example, this week students are figuring out different combinations of 13 (oranges and cherries), to support their learning you can have them use m&m's or cereal pieces, or coins to figure out different combinations of 13. (such as 10 and 3 or 9 + 4)

Welcome New Students and Parents to First Grade!
We are very excited to be starting our new school year and to see all of our precious new first grade faces! We hope everyone had a great summer, and we are looking foward to a year filled with much learning!
