Pajama Day

Our school spirit theme today was Pajama Day! Here we are in our favorite PJ's!

A reading log is going home today in place of the usual homework. Please make sure that your child is reading EVERY SINGLE DAY over this 2 week break. The students who bring their book log back signed when we come back to school in January, will have a special treat for their reading! :) Have a super holiday season!

Our Holiday Craft Party Today

Thanks to the parents who were able to come help us out. We made 4 different crafts, and enjoyed a yummy snack! What a fun afternoon!

Spirit Day Today - Stuffed Animal Day

For our school spirit day today, we were allowed to bring in our favorite stuffed animal. Here we are with our cute little furry friends...

Alex and Bella brought in monkeys... they fit right into our classroom monkey theme!! We had to keep an eye on them though to make sure there was no "monkeying around"! :)

Persuasive Writing

This week in our writers workshop time, we started a new genre called “persuasive writing”. A persuasive story gives a point of view and tries to persuade the reader to agree. We all know that first graders are passionate about many things (like what toy they think they should receive this holiday season, recycling, changing their bed time etc...) Persuasive writing gives them an outlet to express some of these ideas. They will be taught how to use examples and give reasons to persuade, use a particular incident to persuade, use transitional phrases (This is important because... Another reason is... For example...), and imagine their audience.


We just read this book called "Hey Little Ant". It is a great persuasive story about a kid who is giving reasons why he should squish the ant on the sidewalk, and the ant is giving reasons back why the boy should let him live. After reading the book, we all decided for ourselves if we think the boy should squish him, or let him live. Then we filled out our organizer and gave reasons to support our decision. Here is Linda's persuasive writing organizer... she thinks the boy should let the ant live...

Junior Achievment Program Today

A big thanks to the Junior Achievement team from Chase Bank that came today to talk to us about families, needs verses wants, community, and many other GREAT topics. We had fun making sticker books and learning new things.

Weekly Homework

We will only be in school for 2 days next week in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. For this reason, we are sending home a book log in place of the usual homework. We ask that your child be doing some extra reading over this break and please log the books down on the paper going home. The book log will be due back the following Friday (December 2nd).

Red, White & Blue Day

Today our School Spirit Theme was Red, White, and Blue Day. We wore something red, white or blue in honor of Veterans Day tomorrow. We all learned about Veterans Day today and how important it is!

Several of us were confusing Memorial Day and Veterans Day, so we talked about them both. We learned that both holidays were established to recognize and honor the men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. But Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday in May, was originally set aside as a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.

While those who died are also remembered on Veterans Day, which is observed tomorrow on November 11, Veterans Day is intended to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank living Veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty. We are so thankful for them!!

Here we are today, dressed in our nations colors, to honor our wonderful veterans and all they have done for us!

Our Field Trip Today

Today we went downtown to the Florida Theater to see a production of Junie B. Jones. After that, we went to the Public Library and had lunch and listened to a story hour. What a fun day!
