This weeks spelling words are more "sneaky e" and high frequency words. Keep talking to your child about how the sneaky e makes the vowel say its name (for example the "e" in hope makes it say its name "o" instead of hop.)

This weeks spelling words are high frequency then long and short 'a' words. We are focusing on what "sneaky e" does at the end of a word. (For example...when you add sneaky e to the end of the word "mad" it makes the 'a' say it's name and makes the word "made").

Since there is no school for the students Friday and Monday...this gives a nice long weekend for you to take your child to the library! The library is such a WONDERFUL resource filled not only with books, but educational games, movies, and audio tapes. Everything is free to check out, so please try to make trips to the library as often as you can. We want this year to be successful for each student in our class and this is one way that you can support their success. Thanks and have a great long weekend!

Spelling Words January 9-15

Here are this weeks spelling words. Friday the 16th is a planning day for teachers, so there will be no school for the students. For this reason we will have our spelling test on Thursday, and the homework will be due then as well.

Students of the Month!

We are so proud of Josh and Geohvana who were both picked as the first grade students of the month by our school administration. Josh was student of the month for October, and Geohvana was student of the month for December. Way to go! We are so proud of your good choices!

Over the next few weeks, we will be focusing hard on vowel blends such as oa, ou, ow, oo, ee, and ea. This month, we will also be talking a lot about "sneaky e" which makes the vowel say "it's name" (such as the word "cake"... the sneaky e at the end of that word makes the vowel say it's name...long a). Please talk to your children about these long vowel sounds and point them out in your daily reading together.
